Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination is an excellent option for conceiving, thanks to its fast and minimally invasive process.

What is Artificial Insemination?

It is an Assisted Reproduction procedure of low complexity which consists of placing sperm in the uterus through a catheter. A less invasive method than high complexity treatments, to increase the chances of fertilization.

The sperm sample can be from the partner or from a donor, giving single women, heterosexual couples and same-sex couples the possibility of having a baby.

Who is it recommended for?

Artificial insemination is a recommended method in the following situations:

Men with low sperm count, motility and/or morphology
Mild endometriosis problems
Cervical mucus unfavourable to pregnancy
Unknown causes of infertility
Ovulation problems
Ideal, women under 35

How is this done?

Generally, a specialist places sperm with the help of a catheter into the mother's uterus, previously prepared, through something known as 'sperm capacitation', with the aim of increasing the fertility levels of the sperm, facilitating fertilization, and leading to a pregnancy in the best scenario.

Diagnosis

The first thing to be done is a diagnosis, to determine that artificial insemination is the option.

Ovarian stimulation

Ovarian stimulation is achieved by administering medication.

Sperm capacitation

The semen sample, obtained from the partner or donor, is prepared.

Insemination

The prepared semen sample is transferred to the uterus to facilitate fertilization, embryo formation and pregnancy.
