I thought that motherhood and love would not come anymore

"I am 50 years old and I thought I would never be able to become a mother again. I was a single mother, I have a 27-year-old daughter and a 22-year-old son. I had an operation to avoid having more babies, but life takes many turns and throws a lot of things in your way.

They say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans, don't you? Although I thought that motherhood and love was something that had been left behind, some time passed and I met my current husband, we have been together for 14 years now and we love each other very much. He is 58 years old, and he also has a son, 36.

We wanted to have a baby for both of us and that's why we signed up to go to a fertility clinic. When we arrived, we were told that I could only have my pregnancy with tubal ligation if we underwent IVF treatment.

A 4-year bereavement after losing my baby

We did it that way and I got pregnant, but my baby didn't grow and I had to have an operation to terminate my pregnancy, which left us very hurt. Only those of us who have gone through a loss like this know how much it affects us. My husband and I grieved for 4 years after that, we were very hurt.

One day, going to the capital of Querétaro for the groceries and other things, I saw that the Institute was there. We passed several times in front of the building, thinking, commenting and discussing whether or not to go there, until I convinced my husband and we spoke to make an appointment.

During that first appointment we felt that the treatment was very professional, they did tests on both of us and then-then they detected something, and this apart from the fact that I was going to have my pregnancy with tubal ligation. It turns out that I had a bacteria in my blood, and in fact, this was what was causing me to miscarry.

I was given medication to treat the bacteria, and at the same time we were prepared to start our Assisted Reproduction treatment. We chose the program with 4 IVF cycles and money back in case of no success, which made us much more relaxed.

My transfer was a beautiful experience, I would say it was the highlight of the whole treatment, without a doubt! I had 3 little embryos, I was very, very nervous, but I was also very excited.

Although the doctor told me that I could go on with my normal life, after the transfer I didn't even want to walk, I didn't make any sudden movements and I stopped working for 8 days; it was like a fear of mine, I thought that I had to do absolutely everything on my part, and if I needed to stay in bed and only move to go to the bathroom, I would do so.

I took the pregnancy test, and later that day the doctor called me and said, 'You're pregnant, and it looks like 2!' Oh my God, I was so excited, my husband and I screamed, we didn't even wait to tell her the news, it was such a thrill!

I was afraid, I thought about my 50 years and if my body could handle it, but then I thought: 'If God is sending them to me, if he decided that they should stay in my womb, that means that I can do it and that he will leave them to me'.

The day my babies were born I started crying as soon as I saw them, I was so nervous before the day arrived and because of everything that had happened, I even forgot their names! My husband was going crazy at the birth, he was the one who cut the cord! It was a beautiful moment.

Yetzel and Adriel, that's the name of my babies, and they turned my life upside down, nothing to do with what I remembered being a mum, it's not the same when they are two at once, it's never the same, they always teach you something new.

I was expecting them and I knew they would come, at some point and in some way, I don't know how, but they would come. It still seems incredible to me that I had my pregnancy with tubal ligation, I am so glad I didn't take my finger out of the window and insisted. They gave birth to my house, and I thank them for choosing me as their mother.
