Fertility Preservation

Preserve today,
decide tomorrow

Preserving your fertility means freezing eggs or sperm to use when you're ready. A decision that gives you back control over the moment when you decide to have children.

At Ingenes we vitrify your reproductive cells at -196°C in certified banks, with full traceability and continuous supervision by the embryology team.

Why preserve?

The earlier you preserve, the better the quality

The quality and quantity of your reproductive cells decrease with the years, especially egg quality after 35. Preserving at an early age secures genetic material at its best biological moment, available for whenever you decide to use it.

It is not only a medical decision: it is a life project decision. It lets you study, travel, build your career or wait for the right partner without the biological clock dictating the pace.

Who it's for

Three reasons to preserve your fertility

01

By age and life project

You want to postpone motherhood or fatherhood for personal or professional reasons, or because you haven't yet found the person to build a family with. Preserving early protects your future option.

02

For medical reasons

Before oncological treatment (chemo or radio), autoimmune or genetic diseases that affect fertility, severe endometriosis, documented low ovarian reserve or surgery with reproductive risk.

03

By family history

Family history of early menopause, premature ovarian failure or similar cases in close female relatives. If there's inherited risk, preserving early is a reasonable preventive decision.

The process

Five steps to storage

  1. 01

    First Consultation and evaluation

Comprehensive medical assessment, ultrasound and hormonal profile (women) or semen analysis (men). Together we define the appropriate plan for your case.

  2. 02

    Stimulation or collection

For eggs: controlled ovarian stimulation for 8-12 days with close medical follow-up. For sperm: outpatient sample collection.

  3. 03

    Procedure

Outpatient egg retrieval with sedation (eggs) or sample processing in the laboratory (sperm). No significant pain, high safety standards.

  4. 04

    Vitrification at -196°C

Ultra-rapid freezing that prevents ice crystal formation. Post-thaw survival rates significantly higher than traditional slow freezing.

  5. 05

    Storage in our own bank

Storage in our specialized banks with controlled conditions, full traceability and continuous supervision. Ready for when you decide to use them.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about preservation

What is the ideal age to preserve?

For egg freezing, the ideal is before age 35, when ovarian reserve and egg quality are higher. After 35 it remains possible but usually requires more stimulation cycles. For sperm freezing there's no strict ideal age, although sperm quality also decreases with the years, so freezing younger secures better quality for the future.

How long can they remain frozen?

Reproductive cells cryopreserved with vitrification retain viability for many years. Initial storage is for one year and renewed based on your needs. There are documented successful births with eggs frozen for over 14 years and sperm from over 30 years.

Does preservation guarantee a future pregnancy?

Preserving significantly increases your probability of achieving a pregnancy in the future, but no assisted reproduction treatment can guarantee a 100% outcome. The quantity and quality of frozen cells, your age and health when using them are the main factors.

What is vitrification at -196°C?

Vitrification is an ultra-rapid freezing technique at -196°C that prevents ice crystal formation inside the cell. Those crystals are what damage cells in traditional slow freezing. With vitrification, post-thaw survival rates are significantly higher, in eggs, embryos and sperm.

Can I preserve if I have cancer or am starting chemotherapy?

Yes. Oncological preservation is one of the most important indications: before starting chemotherapy or radiotherapy we recommend freezing eggs or sperm, because those treatments can permanently affect fertility. We coordinate with the oncology team so as not to delay your primary treatment.

Is preservation covered by medical insurance?

It depends on the policy and the reason. When done for oncological indication or other documented medical cause, more coverage options usually exist. Our team helps you verify it at the First Consultation.

When I decide to use them, what treatment is done?

When you decide to use your preserved eggs or sperm, they are thawed and used in the assisted reproduction treatment that corresponds to your case: IVF with ICSI or PICSI in most cases. Your reproductive physician explains the complete plan at the moment of the decision.
